Things to Know

California’s Home Care Industry

Choosing a Home Care Company is a very important decision to make when deciding on an agency to take care of you or a loved one. The research and thoroughness in choosing an agency should be no different than choosing a health care provider. Due to an aging population of the baby boomers, the Home Care Industry is one of the most competitive industries in our economy. Due to the easy entry into the industry, there are many home care companies which are opening up in Southern California. They include venture capitalists, franchisees, publically traded companies, and individual entrepreneurs like us.

Online Registry Phenomenon

In the last few years, there have been many technological advancements which have made companies more “tech savvy.” In comparison, these companies behave in a similar business fashion as Uber. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Going online to choose a caregiver from a list of pictures off of a website can be scary, intimidating, and unreliable. You don’t know for sure if these people have a properly conducted background check, if they are negative for Tuberculosis, or how certified the caregivers actually are. These agencies do not offer an opportunity for conversation over the phone, to get a feel for the compassion an office like ours will deliver. Not all patients’ needs are the same, that is why with a simple phone call we can establish a personalized care plan which meets the needs of every individual. The most important part is that these referral agencies are not the employer of the caregiver, meaning that the patient who requests the service is. The employer is the one responsible for the payroll taxes and Workers Compensation insurance. If anything goes wrong, if someone is hurt, or if something is stolen, the employer is responsible. With these online referral agencies, the employer is the patient. That is why choosing Golden Heart Home Health Care is a safe and trustworthy choice to ensure patient advocacy and needs are all met.

Important Questions to Ask

In every industry there are the good and the bad, and when talking to a potential agency, it is important to do thorough research and ask some of the following questions:

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Who is the employer? The company, or the client?
  • Do I pay the care giver or do I pay the Agency?
  • Does the agency conduct a criminal background check on all caregivers?
  • Are the caregivers tested for Tuberculosis?
  • Is the agency available 24 Hours per day 7 Days per week?
